Early this evening I went to my local patches for the first time this year to see what was afoot. Actually taking some time to peer into the bushes along North Lake in Golden Gate Park proved fruitful – I saw my first Ruby-crowned Kinglet and my first Chestnut-backed Chickadee!
Other than that, there were a handful of year birds for me, and what looked like a Hooded Merganser tucked away on an island in North Lake.
There wasn’t much about at Sutro Baths, not even the usual shorebirds.
I saw:
– American Coot
– American Robin
– Anna’s Hummingbird
– Belted Kingfisher
– Black Phoebe
– Bufflehead
* Chestnut-backed Chickadee
– Common Raven (lots!)
– Cormorant sp.
– Dark-eyed Junco
– Great Blue Heron
– Great Egret
– Hooded Merganser
– Mallard
– Mew? Gull
– Pied-billed Grebe
– Ring-necked Duck
* Ruby-crowned Kinglet
– Rufous(?) Hummingbird
– Western Gull
– Yellow-rumped Warbler
