The photos of the Red-tail are especially nice! They are beautiful birds!

Thanks – this one was very cooperative – those photos aren’t cropped at all! It was fun watching it cough up a pellet too. It was only a year or so ago that I learned that nearly all birds cough up pellets, not only Owls, which of course are well-known for theirs.

So, is the Northern Herrier hairier than the Southern Herrier, or is it the other way around?

As you can see, I don’t know much about Herriers, but just wanted to tell you how much your banner reminds me of the place that I used to call my own — Point Lobos… Always a treat to see it when I stop by your blog…

There is not, AFAIK, any such bird as a Southern Harrier. Certainly not in the US! Go figure….

Glad you like the banner. I am extremely fond of Point Lobos!

Adam, am I seeing things? It looks as though that RT hawk has a band on its right leg. Anywhoo, Coyote Hills is another spot I would love to visit. I’ve heard/read about this place — and every time I do, the desire is greater to get there. I’m sure I won’t be disappointed. Thanks for sharing your outing.

Yes, it was banded. It’s not very obvious in these photos – good eye picking it out!

It’s a nice park, and you should see some birds you may not get as often elsewhere (Tree Swallows are a specialty, as they have a bunch of nest boxes for them, and I’ve often seen Common Moorhens there as well as Cinnamon Teal, and Northern Harriers often make low fly-bys)

Very nice Adam… I went hiking at Coyote Hills once… I felt all turned around. It seemed so much like the hills I was more familiar with, but the bay was on the wrong side 😉

Heh, well I still get all turned around when I’m north of SF, since I spent the first 32 years of my life with SF to my north, I always assume it’s to my north no matter where I am 🙂
