Birding at Chain of Lakes (Golden Gate Park, SF)

Sarah and I went for a brief walk around the Chain of Lakes in Golden gate Park last Sunday, and although we didn’t catch a glimpse of the American Bittern that has been reported at North Lake for the past week, we had a nice walk, and I added a bunch of the usual birds to my nascent year list.

Hiking in Marin Headlands

Sunday, 4 January 2009:

In what may well become a new year’s tradition for us, Sarah & I hiked the Hill 88 loop in Marin Headlands for our first “real” hike of 2009 (our snowy walk on the pancake-flat, 1-mile-long North Grove trail in Calaveras Big Trees State Park doesn’t really qualify, pretty though it is).

New Year’s at the cabin

To celebrate our first New Years as a married couple, Sarah & I decided to head to the cabin and enjoy a few quiet days by ourselves.

We arrived mid-day on Dec 30, stocked up on food & drink, and had an early evening.  On New Year’s Eve, we headed up the pass to Bear Valley XC for our first cross-country skiing trip of the season.
