Coyote Hills birding

For the first time in a while I went birding at Coyote Hills in Fremont.  It’s hard to bird here in early winter, as it gets dark early, and I don’t like to pay the $5 entrance fee if I can’t be there for at least an hour or two!

Palo Alto Baylands

Yesterday was gorgeous, so I swung by the baylands again on my way home from work.  There were mostly the usual suspects albeit a lot of them, but a female red-breasted merganser was a first for me.  Too bad she was alone, as I”d have liked to have seen a breeding plumage drake.

Happy New Years!

A joyous 2006 to y’all!  We’ve just returned from a road trip to Portland, Oregon , and are glad to be home with our cats (who, truth to tell, didn’t seem to miss us all that much while we were gone).

Sacramento NWR on NYE

Sarah & I stopped by the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge on our way home from Portland yesterday for a quick trip on the driving loop, as a nasty storm had just broken and we were hoping the birdies would be out shaking out their feathers.
